How To Transition Your Look From Summer To Fall

How to effortlessly transition your style from Summer to Fall

Sweater Dress // Cami // Denim // Sandals – also love this embellished style

When August hits retailers start to sprinkle in fall pieces and slash the prices of summer apparel.  My favorite bright bold colors head to the sale rack. Then I’m left staring at muted neutrals and deep berry shades.

Not quite ready to fully embrace fall apparel in September, I try to find ways to gradually transition over.

That’s why I love this outfit from Lolë. It is a simple, affordable, and comfortable look that easily transitions between seasons.Kate Brennan of The Chic Series wearing Lole Grey Cardigan

This sweater is actually a dress and any item that has wearability versatility is a win in my book.  For now, I love wearing it open as a long sweater vest with a pretty lace cami peeking out from underneath it.  Delicate necklaces are the perfect option to layer on to complete this look up top.  For now its perfect paired with dark denim and strappy neutral sandals.

When the fall weather finally hits – check back with me in November – I plan on wearing it closed with a black turtleneck, a black belt and over the knee black boots.

Re-Create My Summer To Fall Transitional Style

The foundation for any fall outfit is great denim!

If you have yet to try denim made by an athletic company then you are missing out.  High waisted and stretchy are what my current denim dreams are made of.  I rolled the ankles on this style to show off the cute strappy grey sandals.  Or if you are feeling adventurous cut them at the ankle with fabric scissors to display the latest raw hem denim trend.  The dark wash also feels relevant year round.  When that cool crisp air finally arrives these will be perfect tucked into over the knee boots.  Of course, accessories will make any look feel seasonally appropriate and I love the idea of pairing this with a floppy black hat.

How-To Transition Your Make-Up To Fall

Finally, transitioning your look from summer to fall isn’t just about clothing its about your makeup as well.  Before you introduce darker berries into your palette on your lips try the look that is trending in a huge way this season – THE GLOW!  As a fan of a bold lip I was hesitant to test out this very bare look. However I had the opportunity to work with an incredible french make-up artist on the Lolë trip who showed me that less really is more – well sometimes anyway.  “The Glow” is achieved by creating that dewy radiant look on skin.  She never once took a brush out and applied everything with her fingers to keep the look feeling as natural as possible.  In typical true french fashion the less than perfect application created that effortless yet so chic french vibe.

Of course, after seeing the final result I was shocked at how she was able to transform this tired mama into a glowing goddess.  When I asked her for her own beauty secrets as she was naturally gorgeous, her response was lots of water and a good outlook on life.  If like me you have been drinking more wine than water these days here is how you can recreate this look on your own.

How-To Create Fall’s Most Coveted “Glow”

Start With Your Face:

Make up looks best on a well moisturized face . Take the time to massage your moisturizer into your skin in an upward circular motion.  As I learned from Toska spa owner, the face has muscle memory and you always want to “train your skin up”.

Then apply a CC Cream or a tinted moisturizer so you aren’t left with that full foundation look but yet still have light coverage.

Finally cover any blemishes or under eye circles with a creamy concealer like this one by Tarte.  Your skin should be a clear clean palette.

Eyes & Brows:

Next you should subtly define brows. Not by lining them but by brushing in strokes in the same direction that the hair grows. Only fill in holes or gaps.

Find a highlighter stick or an illuminator.  I love Clinque’s Chubby Stick Highlighter which is super easy to apply.  I swipe it down my nose, under my eyebrows in the corner of my eyes and on the highest apples on my cheeks.  I also love Nars Illuminator but I feel like this take a little more skill to apply.

Mascara is essential but you are not trying to create Vegas show girl lashes, so keep them natural looking and flirty.  They should look full and dark which you can also achieve by applying liner along the upper lash line to make lashes look thicker.

The Finishing Touches:

Apply a cream brush to the apples of your cheeks.  Smile and puff your cheeks out and smooth the blush onto your cheeks with fingertips in an outward circular motion.  Think pretty flush.  One of my favorite natural looking lip & cheek tints is by Supergoop!

The final touch – lips!  Stick with a clear gloss that provides that shimmery glean.  I absolutely LOVE this oldie but goodie – Air Kiss by Clinique.
