With summer party season in full swing and a calendar full of events, I was eager to invest in a beautiful yet versatile dress. I always find myself at the same sites every time I need to find an outfit for an upcoming event. Each season I typically purchase one nice dress or jumpsuit from one of the below brands as I know they all typically fit my athletic frame. While they are a little more expensive they have staying power in your closet and you can rely on them season after season.
My Go-To Contemporary Brands For A Seasonal Investment Piece
This season Parker NY has stood out to me above the rest. Their silhouettes feel fresh yet classic and their palette represents all of my favorite primary colors. After spending hours debating on which style to buy I landed on this pretty floral one shoulder style. The nipped in elastic waist defines my more athletic figure highlighting my silhouette. A one shoulder style will draw attention to toned arms and this pretty ruffle detail will help emphasize a smaller bust. Being that I am 34 and not 24 the length feels perfectly appropriate for my age. In addition the looser style allows me to indulge in delicious food without worrying that my “food baby” will be on display. Ruffles on the hem of this relatively relaxed Parker NY Style allow for just enough movement as you dance the night away.
For a summer soiree, I typically opt for a bold bright color.
Honestly though, depending on the time of event, a classic black style is totally appropriate. For this occasion, I couldn’t resist this pretty floral pattern. It’s great because you can keep accessories simple which I love especially when traveling to destination weddings. While the pattern on this Parker NY Dress is bold it still pairs perfectly with a red lip allowing you to keep your makeup to a minimum – always a plus on hot summer nights. Experiment with lip colors until you find “your perfect red” but I always wear this Lip Glace in Poppy year round. (You can read more about how to find the perfect red for your skintone here.)
Keep the rest of your accessories simple. Neutral strappy sandals like these Stuart Weitzman Nudist Heels work perfectly with almost any style. The Nudist comes in various tones and by selecting a color that closely matches your skin tone it will effortlessly elongate your legs. Again, this Stuart Weitzman Shoe is a little more expensive but they are comfortable (they come in multiple heel heights) and go with almost anything. I own them in black and they are my go to shoe for events.
Hello Summer! The Taste of Summer in Central Park NYC:
Most recently I wore this dress to The Taste of Summer in Central Park in NYC. If you aren’t familiar with the event, Taste of Summer brings together more than 800 guests each June under the stars in Central Park for a distinctive kickoff to summer in New York City. This event features culinary tastings prepared by the city’s best restaurants, craft cocktails, a live DJ, and a luxury-filled silent auction. Held at the iconic Bethesda Terrace, this annual benefit for Central Park Conservancy supports the Conservancy’s mission to restore and maintain Central Park. Think of it as a large cocktail hour with lots of fun foods and delicious drinks. You need free hands so choose your handbag wisely – I recommend this Gucci Chain Link Crossbody.
So with all of my experience attending summer weddings, cocktail parties and soirees I put together a few tips on how you can look and feel your best at your next event.
Ten Tips on How to Be Best Dressed At Your Next Summer Soiree
I was raised to believe that is always better to be overdressed than underdressed. When in doubt wear a knee length cocktail dress in black. It will work at almost any NYC event.
Keep Accessories to a minimum. You will be hot and summer events tend to be crowded and sticky.
Bring hairspray. Humid evenings don’t cooperate with most hair types. Keep frizz at bay with this pocket sized hairspray.
