Summer is by far my favorite season for dressing. Typically, I gravitate towards bright colors and airy silhouettes, but for my everyday mom style I keep it casual and comfortable. The lifestyle that comes along with having a three year and one year old means messy hands and lots of action. I want to wear something that can easily be washed but also makes me feel like I am semi-pulled together. Also, the ability to move freely and easily is paramount, which is why I have embraced the athleisure trend with open arms. This $60 romper from Nike meets all of my criteria. It is the perfect mixture of sporty and chic.
When I discovered that one of my favorite athletic brands decided to venture into the athleisure market I was psyched. Nike is known for their technical fabrics and for creating silhouettes that accommodate an athletic physique. For example, this romper was created in one of their signature lightweight cotton materials and is also cut for a muscular body type. Looser leg openings accommodate muscular legs and also make them look slimmer. A drawstring helps define your shape which is essential when dressing an athletic body type. A racerback design let’s you play with the fun peek-a-boo sports bra trend. My FAVORITE strappy style bra from lululemon looks sporty chic when paired with this romper. The free to be tranquil bra is comfortable, supportive and slightly padded. It is definitely worth the investment, I wear mine almost every single day!
Now let’s talk accessories. To stay consistent with my simple and comfortable motto for summer dressing, keep accessories minimal. An athletic style outfit also allows you to wear your favorite and most comfortable mom shoe option, sneakers. Anytime I can pair sneakers with a look, I’m in. Every mom should also own a pair of mirrored or dark sunglasses. Aviators are an obvious choice because they are versatile and go with everything. Finally, let’s talk makeup. With warm weather and little kids hanging on you, invites lots of sweating. For a natural and pretty look I swear by these three items. Start with Supergoop! CC Cream. It is a silky formula that covers imperfections and also provides sun protection as well with SPF 35. The Supergoop! Lip & Cheek Treat provides a rosy glow on cheeks and doubles as a pretty cherry lip gloss. Did I mention it also has SPF 40 coverage!? Finally, the most important touch, mascara. Mascara is a mom’s secret weapon. Kevyn Aucoin’s mascara lengthens and plumps lashes allowing you to look awake.
The Athletic Mom’s Super Make-Up Must-Haves
If you are hesitant to try out a cotton romper from Nike, I have heard that some people are intimidated by this silhouette, then try out this pair of their loose and super comfy sweats that were created in the same material. They are one of my favorite items in my own capsule collection of athleisure wear and you can see how I styled them in a mom friendly outfit here. The athleisure trend might not be everyone’s summer style of choice, so I have linked up with a few of my other favorite bloggers for our fifth edition of Mom Style Monday. If you want to read more about this concept you can read the introductory post here, but in short, it was founded on the premise of inspiring moms to look good and feel good. Mallory Fitzsimmons from Style Your Senses, Cristin Cooper from The Southern Style Guide and I set out to create a destination for women to head when they needed inspiration on how to put together a cute and mom friendly outfit. Check back on the first of each month to see the trend we can tackle or join in on the fun by linking up below.
