I’m so excited to share with you my 10 tips losing the last 10 pounds.
I struggled, and I mean really struggled getting my last ten pounds off after having Summer. Once I did lose the weight I received numerous emails and texts asking me to share my secrets. So scroll down to see my post baby body transformation and my tips on how to get rid of those last ten, and might I add super stubborn, pounds.
Let me be clear, I am not a dietician or a registered nutrionist. I don’t have an extensive fitness background beyond my Lagree fitness training. I just have a passion for working out, for motivating others and for overall health and wellness. I have always been able to easily get weight off. If my weight tipped past a point that I didn’t like I would hardcore exercise for two weeks and be back to my normal self. For the first time in my life I struggled to get back to myself after having baby girl #2. I know there are so many moms out there like me who face the same frustration so I wanted to share what I found worked for me.
At the end of the day its not about the number on the scale but more about how you feel both mentally and physically. To be honest, before I lost the baby weight I felt bloated, puffy and insecure. As a mother of two little girls I don’t want to ever project this type of insecurity on to them. Also, as a blogger throwing yourself in front of a camera with some extra weight on you is not an enjoyable experience either. My photographer Paige Winn is extremely talented but I would cringe every time I opened the file from a previous shoot to go through the images. I knew it was time to make a change but I didn’t know what to do or where to begin. I was already working out 6 times a week and in some cases taking back to back classes. Yes, sad but true.
It was at one of my low moments that Nancy Anderson reached out to me. Little did she know I had been following her on instagram for well over a year. She is a trainer at my favorite fitness studio, Barry’s Bootcamp, has an amazing body and an even better mindset. Oh and did I mention she is a mom to a little boy?! So when we finally connected on the phone I was eager to hear everything she had to say.
She listened intently as I expressed my frustration and when I was finished complaining her first question was, “How’s your diet?”
“Fine but could be better.” Was my response.
Did I eat poorly? No. But I loved carbs and they were present at every meal. Protein made its appearance at a few dinners during the week but it was a rarity that I ever thought ahead or god forbid meal prepped. While trying to balance The Chic Series and two little girls, dinner was typically the last thing on my mind. It often seemed like an overwhelming task that I would avoid at all costs. So instead we would order take-out and let’s be honest there is nothing on a fast-food menu that will help you lose weight.
After explaining my daily diet to Nancy I realized I wasn’t eating healthy I was actually doing the opposite. She explained why this was holding me back in so many ways. Nancy‘s knowledge extends far beyond knowing the difference between good foods and bad foods. She understands the science behind the way your body processes food and if you asked her she could explain it to you in layman’s terms. (I’ll leave it to the expert.) So after speaking on the phone for over an hour I agreed to commit to her program and if I felt comfortable blog about my experience.
The thought about putting my weight on the internet terrified me but I wanted to connect with the community just like me, the moms who are looking to lose the last of their baby weight. The ones who are struggling and the ones who feel insecure. So what happened after I completed the #30DaySlimDown?????
I went from 145 to 135! Not only did I lose the weight, but my body de-puffed and most importantly my confidence came back. I dropped TWO pant sizes. I went from a snug 29 to a 27 of which I had to get the waist taken in! (I rewarded myself by purchasing this high waisted pair!) The definition in my arms became more defined and my legs actually looked slim. And viola there were my abs again. Her #30DaySlimDown or as I like to call it a lifestyle plan forced me that not only adjust my eating habits but also forced me to make some serious changes. It helped me identify a few key elements in my life that were holding me back, both mentally and physically. So to motivate and inspire you to make a change here are my top ten tips on how to get off those last ten pounds.
My Top 10 Tips to Lose the Last 10 Pounds!
Diet, Diet, Diet!
When I changed the way I ate my body changed. I am now a firm believer in you are what you eat. I broke the sugar, gluten and dairy habit and within A WEEK noticed a difference in my skin and body. Here is the link to sign up for the plan that I followed.
Nancy is actually offering my readers a discount code: KATE15
Water, Water, Water!
This isn’t revolutionary, you most likely have heard it before. I didn’t realize how little I was getting until I started tracking it. I now take this bottle with me everywhere I go.
To keep track of the amount of water you are drinking I recommend wearing these bracelets. I loved sliding a bead over to record my mini accomplishments each day. They are appropriately named Count Me Healthy.
Cut out the alcohol.
So I didn’t realize how much I was drinking until I cut it out. I was drinking minimum two glasses a day. Do I still drink? Yes, but probably 1/5 the amount I was drinking before.
I found Zevia to be the best substitute for my after dinner drink. I now crack open a can when I would typically be drinking alcohol. Cream Soda is my favorite.
CLEAN OUT YOUR FRIDGE AND FILL IT WITH HEALTHY OPTIONS
Find an exercise class or routine that you LOVE
It won’t seem like a chore if you love it. Keep trying different routines until you find something that you absolutely love.
Orange Theory Fitness is the perfect blend of cardio and strength training. I used to hate the rower and I would sneak onto the treadmill when I should have been on the rower. But I forced myself to like it and now I LOVE it! It hits other muscles that running doesn’t necessarily hit.
Core Power Yoga helps me balance my body and mind. Stress management is an element that is crucial to losing weight. This article explains it well.
HSM | Core or any Lagree Method Workout – I recommend incorporating at least one day of Core centric workouts into your routine. It is so important to stabilize and strengthen the base (or core) of your body. This will prevent injury and will help you achieve those abs that we all desire.
Connect with a trainer
Tell them about your goals or that you loved their class. Don’t be shy, just make the connection.
The more they learn about you the more they will push you to go the extra mile.
Exercise first thing in the morning.
I would love to work out at 9:40 everyday but there are so many variables that are thrown at you later in the day that you can’t control. The only variable super early in the morning is you. I read an article on ten things successful people do everyday, they wake up super early and they don’t hit the snooze button. You want to succeed? Get your butt out of bed and head to the gym.
Learn to love getting up early. I have coffee waiting for me every single morning and I can smell it when my alarm goes off. I look forward to getting up and drinking a cup by myself before I leave.
There is also something so badass about being done with a workout when the sun is just starting to rise.
Find a motivational partner to participate in the journey with you.
Find a fitness buddy to work out with or hold you accountable on your journey.
I have several workout buddies and my workouts are that much more enjoyable when I’m working out with a friend.
Seriously, do we still think that light weights will make us bulky? Grab the heavy weights and challenge yourself.
My husband always forces me to grab the heavy weights and I always thought I did but I didn’t realize how much heavier I could go.
The more muscle you have the more fat you burn in a resting state.
Set a goal and when you accomplish it buy yourself a new tank or a new pair of sneakers.
Keep your reward workout related, something that will keep you motivated and on the right path.
Identify your weaknesses and work to change them.
Nancy’s plan made me realize how many times I was mindlessly shoving stuff in my mouth. By following her diet I realized that either due to stress or poor planning I was just eating whatever was in front of me.
My first weakness was between 8-10 am – the “mad dash to get to school” hours
Make eggs! I always though they took so long but I can cook them and have them served in under 8 minutes!
Try Daily Harvest smoothies. Just blend and add coconut water or almond milk. Isabella loves a good smoothie, so we can enjoy them together in the morning. Make double the serving and save in your fridge for later so you have a pre-made healthy snack option waiting for you.
2-4 PM – snack time for Isabella – I end up eating her goldfish. Have healthy snacks prepared that you easily serve. Its a win win for all parties involved. These bars are a lifesaver and are recommended by Nancy!
6-8 – Dinner time and Post Dinner Dessert
This one was tough for me because I love pasta and good cookie after bed.
I forced myself to like salmon. I found a recipe that I now look forward to cooking.
Substitue a sweet with an OVI Hydration water. Still refreshing and tastes better than just plain ole water.
When all else fails get up from dinner and brush your teeth. The thought of having to re-floss and re-brush is enough to make me avoid a serving of ice cream.
