Chic Style: But Still Cozy & Casual This Fall

The arrival of sweater weather doesn’t have to mean lots of layers and itchy wool. Knowing how to style an oversized sweater  or rock a statement sleeve can make all the difference between looking frumpy or chic. You can keep it chic this Fall with three simple pieces in your closet that will allow you to look chic while being comfy. Below are a few ideas and tips for how to look chic but stay casual and comfy this Fall.

The Slouchy Knit Sweater

First you want to start with a slouchy knit sweater.  Typically I avoid wool and instead look for cotton or softer blends.  To keep warm in the chillier mornings or even evenings I wear this long sleeve stripe tee underneath as a base layer.  This one is so soft and a great staple item for your closet.  Everyone needs a great stripe tee and this is the fall version!

Ankle Length Denim

Next find a great pair of denim.  As someone who has muscular legs I typically avoid skinny jeans unless I am wearing over the knee boots.  The revival of the straight leg style is actually quite flattering as it creates a long lean line that doesn’t make muscular legs look disproportionate.  I have been loving this pair by Paige denim.  If you don’t believe me check my Instagram.

Fall Footwear

Finally, there are so many options when it comes to fall footwear.   As someone who finds it impractical to run around in chunky heeled booties I opt for one of two styles.  I either wear chic sneakers or over the knee flat boots.  There is no reason to over indulge in footwear but I have to admit I wear both of my “fancy footwear” styles almost every other day.  Golden Goose sneaker originally seemed insanely expensive to me for what appears to be a pair of “dirty sneakers”.  However, once I put them on I realized what all of the hype was about.  They are just cool and will make you feel just a little bit cooler.  Of course Stuart Weitzman’s Lowland Boot is a winner.  I have been wearing them for the past three years and I still have my original suede black over the knee pair.

Accessories

Add some texture to your look with a cute patterned clutch and cool earrings.  These disc earrings are beyond chic and they are only $38!  I also recently discovered this incredible find.  This leopard clutch and was extremely skeptical with the $45 dollar price point but its actually incredible.  I’m a big fan of luxe accessories because they can elevate an outfit instantly but this is a winner at a fraction of the cost.  It’s also bigger than I thought it would be so you can fit your wallet, sunglasses, phone and makeup.  Did I mention that sometimes it doubles as a diaper bag and holds baby wipes and diapers?  Don’t judge.

Make-Up

My friend Lindsey Regan Thorne is a make-up artist who owns Be Pretty.  She is INCREDIBLY talented and helped me put together this super chic 15 minute makeup routine.  Honestly, she did it while I was gabbing away and then literally turned me around and I was shocked.  I couldn’t believe how good I looked in such a short amount of time.  If you want to elevate your look try following these SIMPE – I promise – steps to putting the finishing touch on your fall look.
