I have a secret to tell. I’m 26 years old and still put out milk and cookies for Santa. Yes, I’m aware he doesn’t eat them himself (shhhh!) but there’s something about the annual tradition that I can’t seem to shake even as an adult. It’s fun and a cute little touch to the end of Christmas Eve, a final farewell to the holiday season before Christmas morning arrives.
This year though, I wanted to try an alternative to the whole milk and cookies deal and because I was baking with Kate’s sweet Isabella, I wanted to make the whole baking production short and sweet (pun intended). Although I am not a momma, I am a “puppy mom” and completely understand the attention span of someone young and small. I knew we needed to bake something that didn’t have too many steps involved and that was easy for tiny hands. I decided to make pretzel “hugs” for Santa as they are particularly festive and delicious.
This is really such a simple process and a great treat to bring to your next holiday party.
All you need are three simple ingredients to assemble.
Square Pretzel Snaps (NOT butter snaps)
Hershey’s Hugs (I couldn’t find them anywhere so I purchased the Peppermint Kisses)
Holiday colored M & M’s
The first thing that you do is to set your oven to 200 degrees.
Next, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Lay down your pretzels equal distance from each other and then top each pretzel with a kiss (or hug!!).
After the oven has reached 200 degrees, place your treats inside the oven for 4-5 minutes until the chocolate is glossy and just a little bit melted. Be careful not to leave it in too long or too little as it will either melt everywhere or be too hard in the center to press the M & M into.
Remove your treats from the oven and very gently press your M & M’s into the melted hershey chocolate.
