Running outside in the summer is one of my favorite things to do! Like most people I get super hot after mile 1 almost to the point of overheating. So I did some extensive research on different fabrics that would keep you cool on summer runs. After testing out multiple different brands and multiple different fits in multiple different fitting rooms this outfit was by far the winner. I took it on the ultimate test run by going for a four mile sprint on a beach sidewalk, (think black freshly tarred pavement) and it did not disappoint.
These perforated shorts were built for athletic quads and are meant to provide maximum ventilation.
To begin, I am SUPER picky when it comes to running shorts. Fabric and fit is paramount to me. Shorts can not bunch up in the crotch and I certainly don’t want them to unnecessarily increase my body temperature. The fabric and design of these shorts prevents both from happening. The perforated material keeps you cool and the silhouette is built to accommodate athletic quads to prevent bunching.
These shorts are made from lululemon‘s LUXTREME®, fabric which is sweat-wicking and has four-way stretch. In turn they fit like second skin and give support and coverage with a cool, smooth feel. The higher rise waistband will increases coverage while the relaxed silhouette sits away from your body to give you maximum room to move. A built in liner and drawcord provide additional coverage and comfort. Initially I thought a 2.5″ inseam would be too short for a summer run but it is actually the perfect length.
Now on to the tank. lululemon describes the swiftly t-back tank as, “an anti-stink feather-light layer designed for sweaty runs. The body is made without side seams to keep chafe in check, and the fabric is lightweight so you can move freely. The extra ventilation in high-sweat zones helps you let off steam. Silverescent® technology uses silver fibres to inhibit the growth of odour-causing bacteria on this tank. The T-back gives your shoulders full range of movement, and maximum ventilation as you work up a sweat.” So basically the Swiftly Tech T-Back Tank was made with summer runs in mind.
While I love to run during the summer it is important to also get in some strength training. I try and incorporate this three point move at the end of my runs. This fabric also held up to the strength training test! Here is the simple break down.
Plank with elbows close to the sides of your body. Wrists directly under shoulders.
Lift Right leg and lower down in a tricep pushup.
Hold at the bottom for 3 seconds. Slowly raise back up. Repeat with opposite leg.
Aim for ten total reps.
2. Tricep Push-Up.
3. Raise left leg.
4. Lower down to a tricep push-up.
5. Hold for three seconds at the bottom and slowly raise back up. Switch legs and repeat.
This outfit is not only summer approved but summer running approved. With all of the different fabrics out there I highly suggest you research lululemon. They do a great job explaining fit and purpose of every single item on their site. lululemon does their research on different fabrics and fits so you can spend more time running and less time trying to find your perfect match.
